Just because a product claims that it is natural doesn’t necessarily mean that it is non-toxic. Armed with a little knowledge and with some time to read labels, you’ll be sure to choose the best product available.

Look for products that are bio-degradable, made with plant- and vegetable-based ingredients, free of phosphates or allergy-inducing scents.

Avoid products that contain butyl cellosolve (a dangerous toxic chemical), petroleum, triclosan, phosphates and phthalates that are used in detergents with fragrances.

An oxygen-based cleaner is an excellent alternative to chlorine bleach, vinegar can replace fabric softener and baking soda mixed with vinegar will take care of tough stains.
